CLARISSA DINIZ — Curator and lecturer at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. Former editor of the art criticism magazine Tatuí (2006–2015), guest curator of the Centre for Curatorial Leadership, MoMA (2014), and co-curator of various exhibitions, including Museu do Homem do Nordeste (MAR, 2014) and À Nordeste (Sesc 24 de Maio, 2019).

SUELY ROLNIK — Psychoanalyst, critic, curator, and professor at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, she researches the field of contemporary art and the politics of subjectivization in diverse contexts. Her published works include Transformações contemporâneas do desejo (Estação Liberdade, 1989) and, with Félix Guattari, Micropolítica. Cartografias do desejo (Vozes, 1986). 

JULIANA BRAGA — Historian specializing in museology with a master’s degree in management and public policy. She is head of the Department of the Visual Arts and Technology at Sesc São Paulo, where she has been working since 2000. She coordinates and supervises the Sesc network’s visual arts program statewide.

MARIA RITA KEHL — Psychoanalyst, journalist, and author. Kehl contributed to opposition vehicles during the Brazilian dictatorship and investigated human rights abuses against peasants and indigenous populations for the National Truth Commission (2012–14). Her published books include Bovarismo brasileiro (Boitempo, 2018). She practices at open clinics in São Paulo.

ROSANA PAULINO — Visual artist, researcher, and educator. She explores social, ethnical, and gender issues, with focus on the position of black women in Brazilian society. A retrospective of her work, A costura da memória, was held at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in 2018. She created one of the works commissioned for the 21st Contemporary Art Biennial Sesc_Videobrasil.

LUISA DUARTE —Art critic, curator, lecturer, and former member of the advisory board to MAM São Paulo (2009–2012). In conjunction with Adriano Pedrosa, she edited the book ABC – Arte brasileira contemporânea (Cosac Naify, 2014). Her curatorial projects include Quarta-feira de cinzas (Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, 2015) and Tunga – O rigor da distração (MAR, 2018), both in Rio de Janeiro.

PETER PÁL PELBART — Professor of philosophy at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. His published works include Ensaios do assombro (2019). He is the Portuguese translator of the oeuvre of Gilles Deleuze. Coeditor of n-1 edições publishing house and coordinator of the Ueinzz Theater Group, formed by psychiatric day patients from the A Casa hospital.

LISETTE LAGNADO — An independent critic and curator. She curated the 27th Bienal de São Paulo, Como viver junto (2006), and the 33rd Panorama of Brazilian Art, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (2013). She was director of the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro, between 2014 and 2017, and is a member of the curatorial team for the 11th Berlin Biennale (2020).

ANA PAULA COHEN — An independent curator and author. In addition to co-curating the 28th Bienal de São Paulo (2008), her most recent curatorial projects include exhibitions at the Tel Aviv Museum (Israel) and Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada). She is creator and coordinator of the graduate course in curatorial studies and practices administered at the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, in São Paulo.

TOWARD A NEW POLITICAL IMAGINATION

VLADIMIR SAFATLE — Lecturer in philosophy at the Universidade de São Paulo, his research subjects include the epistemology of psychoanalysis and psychology and the philosophy of music. He is the author of O circuito dos afetos: corpos políticos, desamparo e o fim do indivíduo (Cosac Naify, 2015). He coordinates the Social Theory, Philosophy, and Psychoanalysis Research Lab at FFLCH USP.

MÁRCIO SELIGMANN-SILVA — Lecturer in literary theory at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, his themes of research include German romanticism, media theory, 18th- to 20th- century aesthetics, and the work of Walter Benjamin. He is the author of Ler o livro do mundo (Iluminuras/Fapesp, 1999), for which he won a National Library award, and O local da diferença (Editora 34, 2005), winner of the Jabuti Prize in the literary criticism category.

MARISA FLÓRIDO — A lecturer at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Flórida holds a degree in architecture and urbanism and a doctorate from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro’s Fine Arts School. She conducts research in the fields of the history of art, art criticism, and curatorship. Author of Nós, o outro, o distante na arte contemporânea brasileira (Circuito, 2014). 

PABLO LAFUENTE — Curator and author, whose published works include Experiences of the Common Good: inSite/Casa Gallina, a Project Immersed in a Neighbourhood (Mexico and San Diego: inSite/Casa Gallina, 2018), he co-curated the 31st Bienal de São Paulo (2014) and coordinates the art and education program at the CCBB. He is one of the curators of the exhibition Sawé: Liderança Indígena e a Luta pelo Território (Sesc Ipiranga, 2020).

GABRIEL BOGOSSIAN — An independent curator, editor, and translator, he researches the representation of indigenous peoples in Brazil. His exhibitions include Nada levarei quando morrer, aqueles que me devem cobrarei no inferno (Galpão VB, 2017) and Akram Zaatari – Amanhã vai ficar tudo bem (Galpão VB, 2016), all in São Paulo. He is associate curator with Associação Cultural Videobrasil.

GUILHERME WISNIK — Lecturer at Universidade de São Paulo’s Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, he was curator-general of the 10th Bienal de Arquitetura de São Paulo (2013). He is the author of Infinito vão: 90 anos de arquitetura brasileira (Casa da Arquitectura de Portugal, 2018, with Fernando Serapião) and Dentro do nevoeiro: arte, arquitetura e tecnologia contemporâneas (Ubu, 2018).

LAYMERT GARCIA DOS SANTOS — Professor with the sociology department at Unicamp, Laymert coordinates the Laboratory for Network-based Culture and Technology at Instituto Século 21, São Paulo. His published works include Amazônia transcultural (Edições n-1, 2016) and Politizar as novas tecnologias: o impacto sócio-técnico da informação digital e genética (Editora 34, 2003).

LUCY LIPPARD — Author, activist, and curator, she researches activisms in art, feminism, archeology, and land use. Her published works include Undermining: A Wild Ride through Land Use, Politics and Art in the Changing West (2014) and Mixed Blessings: New Art in a Multicultural America (1990). Holder of a Guggenheim Fellowship, she lives in New Mexico, USA.

MIGUEL A. LÓPEZ — Writer, researcher, and curator, he investigates feminist collaborative dynamics and re-articulations of art and culture. Co-director of the TEOR/éTica art space in San José, Costa Rica, he has curated various exhibitions, including The Words of Others: León Ferrari and Rhetoric in Times of War (REDCAT, Los Angeles, and Perez Art Museum, Miami, 2017–2018), and the Deus é bicha section of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo (2014).

MARIANA CAVALCANTI — Associate lecturer at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro’s Department of Social Studies, where she researches cities. She coordinates Grupo Casa, which studies housing and the city, codirected the documentary Favela fabril (2012) and coedited the collection Occupy All Streets: Olympic urbanism and contested futures in Rio de Janeiro (Terreform, 2016).

CARLA CAFFÉ — Caffé works in cinema, art, illustration, and graphic design. She teaches drawing at the Escola da Cidade, São Paulo, and is the author of the book Era o hotel Cambridge – arquitetura, cinema e educação (Edições Sesc, 2017) and the artist’s book A(e)rea Paulista (Galeria Vermelho, 2011). Her work as art director includes the movie Central Station (1998).

MARILIA LOUREIRO — Curator of Casa do Povo, in São Paulo, since 2017. She has also worked for the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, Masp, and on the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo (2018), and has collaborated widely with independent art spaces, particularly Lugar a Dudas (Cali, Colombia), Capacete (Rio de Janeiro), Ateliê397 and Pivô (both in São Paulo).

THE PRESS, ACTIVISM, AND ART: LGBTQI+ PRODUCTION, YESTERDAY AND TODAY

JOÃO SILVÉRIO TREVISAN — Author and activist, he founded the first homosexual identity group (Somos) and the first journal geared towards the gay community in Brazil, Lampião da Esquina, back in the 1970s. His study Devassos no paraíso (A homossexualidade no Brasil, da colônia à atualidade) was republished in 2018. In 2017, he published his first autobiographical work, Pai, pai (Alfaguara).

PAULO MENDEL — A filmmaker, Mendel researches the interfaces between art and video, video art, and the documentary. His work has been seen at such shows as the Prague Quadrennial and incorporated into collections including the Circuito Videodanza Mercosur and the Centre de vidéo-danse, Bourgogne.

VITOR GRUNVALD — Visual artist, filmmaker, and lecturer. He researches the appropriation of artistic methodologies and practices in the anthropological process. He is a member of the Visual Anthropology Group and the Center for Anthropology, Performance, and Drama at USP’s Sound and Image in Anthropology Laboratory.

ELVIS STRONGER — A human rights activist, Stronger is part of the Stronger Family collective and the Municipal LGBT Council in São Paulo. Related to LGBTQI+ issues and the empowerment of black youths from the slums, his projects include the LGBT Parade in Cidade Tiradentes and Cinedivercidade at the Centro Cultural do Grajaú, São Paulo (2013).

GABRIEL BOGOSSIAN — An independent curator, editor, and translator, he researches the representation of indigenous peoples in Brazil. CONTEMPORARY FEMINISMS FROM A DE-COLONIAL PERSPECTIVE

AMARA MOIRA — Holder of a doctorate from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Moira is a transvestite, feminist, and militant for LGBTQI+ and prostitutes rights. She is a member of the Warrior Women Association, the Identity Group, and the TransTornar Collective, and the author of the work E se eu fosse puta (hoo editora, 2016). She also writes a column for Mídia Ninja. 

JULIANA BORGES — An anthropology researcher, Borges served as associate-secretary for women’s policy at São Paulo city hall (2013), and as an articulator from the Black Initiative for a New Policy on Drugs. She is a columnist on the site Justificando and author of the book O que é encarceramento em massa? (Letramento, 2018).

DIANE LIMA — Independent curator, researcher, and creative director. Her practices discuss symbolic violence, the ethics and aesthetics of resistance, and the decolonization of feelings and institutions. Her recent projects include the racial awareness program A.Gentes and the exhibition Diálogos ausentes (São Paulo, 2016), both at Itaú Cultural.

MEMORY AND POLITICS IN LATIN AMERICAN COLLECTIONS

PAULO HERKENHOFF — Curator, author, critic, and art historian, his posts have included cultural director of the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR, 2012–2016); curator-general of the 24th Bienal de São Paulo (1998); curator of the Brazilian pavilion at the 47th Venice Biennale (1997); associate curator of the department of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art New York (1999–2002); and consultant to documenta IX, Kassel, Germany (1991).

NYDIA GUTIERREZ — Museologist, independent curator, author, and architect, Gutierrez lectures at the Universidad Nacional de Bogotá, and was chief curator of the Museo de Antioquia (2012–2019). She was curator and museological advisor on the 12th Encounter of Young Artists at FIA-Caracas (2010), among others.

FERNANDA D’AGOSTINO — Coordinator of the museological collection center at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, D’Agostino was assistant curator on the 28th Bienal de São Paulo (2008) and supervisor on the project to reorganize the storage, organization, access, and publicity/ promotion systems at the Pinacoteca (2011–2012).

RESISTANCE AND IMAGE IN OUTPUT FROM THE INDIGENOUS WORLD

MARIO A. CARO — Researcher, independent curator, and contemporary art critic, Caro lectures at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he researches the history and theory of contemporary indigenous arts. He also works with various communities to promote global cultural exchange.

AMPAM KARAKRAS — A Shuar activist with wide-ranging involvement in indigenous resistance movements in Ecuador, in 2018 Karakras founded and presided over the Federación Interprovincial de Centros Shuar. That same year he published Miguel Tankamash y la lucha Shuar (Artes Gráficas Silva). Living in the Amazon Rainforest, between Peru and Ecuador, the Shuara resisted the Spanish conquistadors.

KAMIKIA KISÊDJÊ — Photographer, filmmaker, and editor trained by the NGO Vídeo nas Aldeias, he works for the Kisêdjê and Terra Indígena do Xingu indigenous associations and administers audiovisual workshops around the country. He also runs a web channel about the national indigenous movement.
