4:30 pm • PERFORMANCE - Doplgenger | Fragments Untitled #5 (Images of past as images of future)
Part of an artistic project that examines the media’s participation in the construction of historical narratives in Yugoslavia in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, the lecture-performance discusses the problem of remembering, representing and giving voice to distant histories through images from the media, the politics of archiving, audiovisual experiments and the impact of this language on the viewer.

In the past and present, racism has depended on cultural systems to justify itself. Often, art has been used as a tool to promote white supremacy. Memory plays a vital role in building individual and collective identities, but it is usually considered in contexts of stability. The conversation addresses the impact of forced displacement, banishment, exile and war on the memory of individuals and peoples, on cultural representation and on the historical understanding for different generations.

7:30 pm • LAUNCH - BFVPP Project | Dossier Anna Bella Geiger
An initiative of the Ostrovsky Family Fund, the Brazilian Film and Video Preservation Project (BFVPP) focuses on recovering and giving visibility to video works produced by female artists between 1960 and 1984. Through a partnership with the Videobrasil Collection, the works can be consulted by researchers, artists and the general public. At the launch, Vivian Ostrovsky talks to Anna Bella Geiger, one of the artists whose works are present in BFVPP’s project.

Maher works in a traditional brickyard on the banks of the Nile, near the Merowe Dam in Sudan. Every evening, he secretly wanders off into the desert to work on a mysterious clay work. When the Sudanese people rise up to demand their freedom, Maher's creation starts to come to life.

In her work, the artist questions the way we forge affiliations and limits, forms of coexistence and situations in which some are eventually excluded. She works with inclusive and participatory methods, and with traditions, rituals, folklore, culinary culture and its social impacts, seeking to create greater understanding between communities. The performance consists of a ritual experience, open to the public, linked to her experience at Cozinha Ocupação 9 de Julho, a project of the Movimento sem-teto do Centro.

Through photography and performance, the Cameroonian artist creates alternative identities that challenge conventional representational standards and gives autofiction and self-portraiture dimensions that are both political and historical, fictional and intimate. Departing from the photographic series "70s Lifestyle" and "Fosso Fashion" presented at the Biennial, Fosso discusses his artistic career in this conversation with Adriana Ferreira Silva, journalist, writer and curator, and with Thyago Nogueira, curator, director of the IMS Contemporary Photography Department and editor-in-chief of ZUM magazine.
